CNN law enforcement correspondent questions if man out to kill Justice Kavanaugh over Roe v. Wade was even armed — despite 'man with weapon' onscreen headline

CNN law enforcement correspondent Whitney Wild questioned during a Wednesday broadcast if the arrested man who told cops he came to Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh's house to kill him was even armed.

But as Wild gave her report, a CNN onscreen headline referred to him as a "man with weapon."

What are the details?

"We don't yet know what the nature of the threat was. We don't know what language the threat was or what kind of weapon this man might have had — if he had one at all," Wild said. "Because the information at this point is just so thin."

And while Wild's on-camera report broadcasted at 11:41 a.m. EST, she posted a 10:43 a.m. tweet saying the man "was armed."

'Risk truly comes from both sides of this abortion debate'

Wild also seemed less than surprised about overall threats against Supreme Court justices in the wake of last month's leaked draft ruling that would overturn Roe v. Wade and throw abortion law back to the states.

She said federal officials have been "sounding the alarm on this for about a month" and indicating that "justices will certainly be ... potentially targeted by violent extremists who are angered over this pending ruling that is poised to strike down Roe v. Wade."

Wild added that it's "an extremely passionate issue; there are emotions on both sides. Federal officials have made clear over and over they believe the risk truly comes from both sides of this abortion debate, so certainly this [Kavanaugh] case [is] really solidifying what federal officials have been warning about. People are angry. They might seek to use the abortion ruling as a justification to cause violence, and that puts the Supreme Court justices, their staff, and other members of the judiciary — especially the Supreme Court — at risk."

Wild was getting hit Wednesday afternoon with a lot negative comments on her Twitter page over her onscreen statements. Here are but a few:

• "And the first thing you do is rush on the air to blame conservatives for a liberal that went to Kavanaugh's house with a gun," one commenter wrote. "This is why support for CNN and the Democrat Party is in the gutter. Reasonable people make up a majority of our country, and they don't fall for this BS."
• "All that money daddy spent on college, and you are just a regime mouthpiece hack," another user said.
• "Is this what you reported, or did you mislead 10s of viewers?" another commenter quipped.
• "The good news: I learned who you are today. I didn’t know you were on the planet before I saw your 'both sides' clip," another commenter revealed. "The bad news: I know now not to listen to a word you say if I ever see you again."

Anything else?

According to the Washington Post, the suspect arrested outside Kavanaugh's house is in his mid-20s and was carrying at least one weapon and burglary tools. He had reportedly told police officers he was there to kill Kavanaugh.

The paper added that the man was angry over the leaked draft decision that would overturn Roe v. Wade as well as recent mass shootings.
