Democratic whip Katherine Clark's son gets off with a slap on the wrist for assaulting a police officer and vandalizing monuments

Jan. 6 protester Scott Fairlamb received a 41-month prison sentence for assaulting a police officer. For the same crime, 23-year-old leftist Jared Dowell was sentenced to write an apology letter.

The primary difference besides the date of the incidents and the perpetrators' political persuasions appears to be that Dowell is the "non-binary" son of the No. 2 Democrat in Congress.

What's the background?

Dowell, son of House Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (D-Mass.), was arrested and charged with assault and battery on a Boston police officer inflicting serious bodily injury, vandalizing a historic monument, damaging property by tagging, and resisting arrest.

TheBlaze previously reported that Boston police had responded to a scene of a leftist disturbance on Jan. 21 at the Parkman Bandstand Monument in the Boston Common, where they allegedly found Clark's son vandalizing the monument.

Dowell, reportedly in the company of roughly 20 other leftist thugs who were blocking traffic and making a scene, had allegedly defaced the monument, writing "NO COP CITY" and "ACAB," which stands for "all cops are bastards."

Officers intervened to detain him and restore order but in the process were reportedly swarmed by other leftist violators, some of whom attempted to interfere with Dowell's arrest.

The offense report indicated that police officers approached Dowell and commanded him to stop. As one officer, a former Marine, "got close to Dowell he attempted to flee by violently flailing his arms, striking the Officer."

"Officer Roca was observed ... to be bleeding from his nose and mouth due to the initial struggle with Dowell," said the report.

Despite Dowell's alleged attack on the police officer and a "brief struggle," other officers were able to place him under arrest.

Slap on the wrist

Katherine Clark issued a statement after her son's arrest, writing, "I love Riley, and this is a very difficult time in the cycle of joy and pain in parenting. This will be evaluated by the legal system, and I am confident in that process."

Clark's confidence was evidently well placed.

According to the Boston Globe, Dowell will have his assault and vandalism case dismissed after he provides an apology letter to Officer Daniel Roca, whom he assaulted the night he signaled his antipathy for police officers in paint.

While Boston Municipal Court Judge Steven Key spared the Democratic whip's son from realizing real consequences for his actions, he stipulated that Dowell must perform 30 hours of community service within the next year and repay the city for cleaning up his graffiti.

Dowell is reportedly also barred from returning to the Boston Common.

"The case will be dismissed upon successful completion of all conditions within the one-year period," said prosecutors.

Katherine Clark invoked her son in a March speech, just days after six Christians were murdered in Nashville by a transsexual extremist. Clark suggested that to stand in the way of transsexuals' happiness "is to stand against our most basic American values."

Clark has also been critical of those who stand in her way, calling Republicans in Congress "extremists."

The Democratic whip further claimed — roughly a month after her son assaulted a police officer — that Republicans pose a "danger to the lives, freedom, and well-being of the American people."

One month prior to her son's sentencing, Clark stressed that "core to our democracy is the rule of law," adding that "extreme behavior is dangerous and unpatriotic."
