Father, 64, shoots son, 40, amid argument outside restaurant

A 64-year-old father shot his 40-year-old son amid an argument outside a restaurant in Adairsville, Georgia, Saturday night, police said.

Police said the pair was arguing in the Blue Agave restaurant on Legacy Way, and the squabble spilled into the restaurant's parking lot where the father pulled a gun and shot his son around 8:15 p.m.

The Macon Telegraph said the son was hit in the forearm and abdomen.

The father and son were still at the scene when officers arrived moments later, police said.

The victim — David Jarrett of Lakewood Drive in Carrollton — was taken to Floyd Medical Center in Rome and went directly into surgery, police said, adding that he was in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit when the report of the shooting was posted to Facebook on Sunday afternoon. The paper said his condition wasn’t known as of Monday.

The father — Stanley Jarrett of Snow Springs Road in Adairsville — was taken into custody, police said, adding that the gun was recovered along with a spent shell casing found at the scene of the shooting.

Stanley Jarrett was taken to Bartow County Jail and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, reckless conduct, and pointing a gun at another person, police said. Jarrett — who stands 6-feet-5-inches tall and weighs 280 pounds — was still in jail as of Tuesday afternoon.

Police said they were working on finalizing the details of the Investigation.

One commenter on the police department's Facebook summary said she was there when the shooting took place, adding that "you ain't safe nowhere."
