Homeowner with family to protect opens fire on intruders who run up on him from behind: 'They should just pick a new career'

Surveillance video caught the scary moments when a Los Angeles homeowner with a family to protect opened fire on intruders who ran up on him from behind — right at his front door.

What are the details?

Video shows the homeowner, beverage in hand, walking toward his front door as his driveway gate closes around 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

A pair of crooks are soon seen in the video scaling the wall next to the gate. One of them hangs back a tad while the other — a hooded individual with gun — follows the homeowner's path.

A front-door surveillance camera records the intruder running up on the homeowner:

"Out of nowhere I felt someone run up behind me, put something to my back, put a pistol to my back ,and somebody running up," the homeowner told KABC-TV.

But video shows the homeowner react in an instant, first by tossing his tea at the intruder, the station said:

He also has an even hotter surprise in store for the unwanted guest, pulling out his own gun and opening fire as the intruder and his accomplice trailing behind turn tail and run:

The pair make it back into the driveway — one fires shots back at the homeowner — and they jump over the wall and run into the night.

KABC said that while they got away, they did so empty-handed.

"I guess they decided to try to come at me and come in the house," the homeowner told the station afterward. "But I have a 5-month-old baby and a wife and a nanny in the house, and that wasn't going to happen."

He added to KABC: "There was nothing in my house that was worth dying for, but I was willing to die for my family."

The homeowner added to the station that he filed a report with LAPD's Olympic Division: "It's a matter of time before these people get caught. I think they should just pick a new career before they do end up in jail."
