Critics pounce on VP Kamala Harris for demanding 'an assault weapons ban'
June 15, 2023
As the Biden administration persists in advocating for more gun control, Vice President Kamala Harris earned pushback on social media for advocating for an "assault weapons ban."
"Weapons of war have no place on the streets of a civil society. Congress must pass an assault weapons ban. President Biden will sign it," Harris tweeted.
Republican Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky responded by claiming that Harris wants government agencies — but not the American public at large — to possess those firearms.
"Your body guards, and dozens of 'civil' agencies like the USDA, the US Dept. of Ed., and the EPA possess the firearms you are calling weapons of war. The reality is you want every citizen disarmed and every government agency armed with these guns," Massie tweeted.

Others also pushed back against the vice president's gun control advocacy.
"How about we do an inventory of the weapons your protection team carries? Why would they be entitled to such firearms, but not regular citizens?" Steve Cortes tweeted.
Conservative radio host and Second Amendment advocate Dana Loesch declared, "This republic was founded by free people using weapons of war. They literally made this society. You'll ban nothing and Biden will sign nothing."
"A civil society needs 'weapons of war' because tyrants have historically made societies quite uncivil," attorney Kostas Moros wrote.
Harris was not alone in promoting gun control Thursday on social media. "At a time when guns are the number one killer of kids in America, it shouldn't be this hard to convince Republicans in Congress to keep weapons of war off our streets and to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people," President Joe Biden tweeted.
The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution states, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
