$1.3 million home belonging to Sen. Liz Warren's son gutted by fire in Massachusetts

Investigators have revealed what they believe to be the cause of a fire that badly damaged a house belonging to the son of Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts.

Medford Town officials said the fire was likely caused by oily rags left inside the home by workers who were renovating the five-bedroom, four-bathroom home built in 1900.

The Medford Fire Department responded to reports of a fire from neighbors on Tuesday at about 1 a.m. Tuesday.

"It was bad, it was bad, like you could see, it's a huge porch and there were flames pouring out of the entire porch," said a neighbor to WCVB-TV.

Medford Fire Chief John Freedman said that the house was set on a hill overlooking the town of Medford, which made it even more difficult for their fire suppression efforts.

“Up here on the hill, every foot of elevation you draw pressure losses,” Freedman said. “They’re flowing a lot of water and that puts strain on the systems.”

Video appeared to indicate that they fought the fire for about five hours.

Local news cameras caught Warren's son, Alexander Warren, surveying the damage to his home, but when offered the chance, he had no comment for the firefighters.

The far-left Democrat released a brief statement about the incident.

"I deeply appreciate the efforts of the firefighters who worked through the night to put out a fire at our son's house. I am grateful that everyone is safe and request privacy for our family," the senator wrote.

A neighbor told WCVB that the renovations had been nearly complete and that the family wanted to use the home for an Easter celebration.

According to online records, the home was last sold for $1.35 million in May of 2021 but had appreciated to $1.454 million.
