Male day-care worker who poses as female accused of sexually abusing child while changing diaper

A Kentucky man has been arrested after he allegedly sexually abused and made inappropriate comments about a child while changing the child's diaper at a day-care center last fall.

Back in November, the Kentucky Department for Community Based Services received an anonymous tip about a supposedly transgender employee at Explore Learning Academy in Paducah, Kentucky, a city of about 30,000 people in the western area of the state, just south of the Illinois border. The tipster made an allegation of abuse against a man who claims to be a woman and who goes by the name Maria Childers.

On February 8, the KDCBS reported the allegation to the Paducah Police Department, and officers and at least one KDCBS representative immediately went to the facility to investigate the allegation further. They spoke with a witness at the day-care center who corroborated the details of the allegation.

They also spoke to the director of Explore Learning Academy, who claimed she was aware of the allegation and said she had written Childers up for the inappropriate comments he made while changing the child's diaper. The exact nature of his supposed remarks remains unclear.

Police then took Childers to the station for further questioning. During the interview, Childers reportedly denied that he had even changed the child's diaper. However, officers then showed Childers a text message that he had sent to the director, a text message stating that he had, in fact, changed the diaper. At that point, Childers changed his story and denied touching the child inappropriately and making inappropriate comments while he changed the diaper.

Childers, 25, was arrested that same day and booked into McCracken County Jail on one count of first-degree sexual abuse of a child under 12 years of age. He remains in custody on $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 23. Jail records list Childers as male.

Childers' current status with Explore Learning Academy is unknown.
