After dropping short-lived US Senate bid, Rep. Matt Rosendale announces he will seek re-election to the House

After announcing then quickly dropping a U.S. Senate bid earlier this month, Republican Rep. Matt Rosendale of Montana has announced that he will now seek re-election to the House.

The House Freedom Caucus member announced a U.S. Senate bid earlier this month, but the same day, former President Donald Trump issued a post on Truth Social in which he endorsed Tim Sheehy for the role while also noting, "I also respect Matt Rosendale, and was very happy to Endorse him in the past - and will Endorse him again in the future should he decide to change course and run for his Congressional Seat."

Just shy of a week later, Rosendale announced that he was dropping his Senate bid, citing Trump's endorsement of Sheehy and a "lack of resources."

In a post earlier this month, Rosendale referred to Sheehy as "Mitch McConnell's hand pick." But in his statement on Wednesday, Rosendale backed Sheehy for U.S. Senate. The congressman also announced in the statement that he will seek another term in the House.

"WHEN I ANNOUNCED MY CAMPAIGN FOR THE U.S. SENATE, I BELIEVED THAT WAS THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO CONTINUE SERVING THE PEOPLE OF MONTANA. I WAS NOT ABLE TO SECURE PRESIDENT TRUMP'S SUPPORT FOR THAT RACE NOR THE FINANCIAL RESOURCES, AND THERE WAS SIMPLY NO VIABLE PATH FORWARD. PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS BEEN THE GREATEST PRESIDENT IN MY LIFETIME, AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE MUST SEND HIM BACK TO THE WHITE HOUSE IN NOVEMBER," Rosendale said in the statement.

"I AM SUPPORTING TIM SHEEHY AS OUR PARTY'S NOMINEE SO WE CAN RALLY TOGETHER TO DEFEAT JON TESTER AND TAKE BACK THE U.S. SENATE," the congressman declared. "AT THE URGING OF MY FAMILY, FRIENDS, CONSTITUENTS, AND PRESIDENT TRUMP, I ANNOUNCE MY INTENTION TO SEEK RE-ELECTION."
