Woman allegedly killed by husband while awaiting protective order; police officer shot twice in murder-suicide standoff

An Oklahoma man allegedly shot a police officer twice in the arm after murdering his wife and eventually committing suicide, according to KFOR News.

Two McClain County, Oklahoma, deputies and one Blanchard, Oklahoma, police officer arrived at a domestic dispute call at 4 a.m. on April 8, 2023, only to be confronted with bullets at the front door.

As law enforcement arrived on the scene, an armed confrontation took place at the door, resulting in the Blanchard police officer getting shot twice in the arm. The suspect, Konrad Pfannenstiel, then retreated back inside the home.

“They made contact at the front door to ascertain what was going on. And they were met by gunfire by the suspect. They exchanged gunfire,” said Bryan Murrell, captain with the McClain County Sheriff’s Office.

Other law enforcement secured a perimeter around the house for hours while waiting for a tactical team, as the injured officer was extracted for medical care at the same time.

“Our officers were extracted from the from the scene, and we held down a perimeter. Oklahoma Highway Patrol tactical team came on scene and took over and made the scene safe for us… The Oklahoma patrol made entry. We were unsure if he was still alive and barricaded inside,” Captain Murrell said.

Upon entry, the patrol team found the dead body of the suspect's wife, Ashley Pfannenstiel, who was apparently shot by her husband.

Law enforcement reports that the deceased wife was waiting for a protective order she had filed against her husband the week before, but the documents sadly hadn't been served yet.

“From what I understand, he went back to Colorado and then returned back here. We were in the process between here and Colorado agents trying to get him served but he was never served with the [order]," the police captain explained.

“The suspect is deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Murrell added.

The couple had children who were reportedly staying with family members at the time of the shooting.

“Everybody knows everybody out here. And so, this is a tragic situation out here. And so, they’ll be dealing with it for some time to come,” Murrell commented.

The injured officer is recovering in the OU Medical center with non-life-threatening injuries, but did undergo surgery.
