Police arrest man for allegedly attacking Trump volunteers with van, political motive being investigated
February 09, 2020
'Anybody who interrupts a political process in this country needs to be taken very seriously'
Police in Florida have arrested the man they believe is responsible for running over a tent belonging to Republicans who were registering people to vote.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said that 27-year-old Gregory William Loel Timm has been arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a person 65 years of age or older, one count of criminal mischief, and driving with a suspended license, WTLV-TV reported.
Timm is accused of driving through a tent at a local Walmart where volunteers with President Donald Trump's re-election campaign and the Duval County Republican Party were registering people to vote.
The JSO said detectives were called to the scene to investigate whether the attack was politically motivated.
"We're obviously going to follow that up and we take that very seriously," JSO Lieutenant Larry Gayle said. "Anybody who interrupts a political process in this country needs to be taken very seriously."
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
