Police frantically search for missing 3-year-old girl who authorities believe could be in grave danger

Police are searching for 3-year-old Lina Khil after she inexplicably went missing Monday evening at the Villas Del Cabo housing complex in San Antonio, Texas.

What are the details?

According to a report from KSAT-TV, Lina's family — who are Afghan refugees — reported the child missing after the mother and child were playing at the complex's playground.

The station reported that the mother and child were at the playground with other children between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., when "her mother left and returned to find her daughter missing."

It remains unclear at the time of this reporting how long the mother was away, but San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said that the woman returned to the playground a "short time later" after initially leaving.

McManus said that the girl was not left alone and was playing with other children at the playground when she disappeared.

The child — who stands 4 feet tall and weighs 55 pounds — was wearing a black jacket, red dress, and black shoes when she disappeared. Her hair was in a ponytail.

Police believe that the child may be in grave or immediate danger and are "sparing no assets or resources" to recover the child.

On Tuesday, the department requested assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

“We have every available asset in the police department working on the case right now,” McManus said, adding that “we are sparing no assets or resources.”

The search for the child continued into Wednesday.

Anyone with information about Lina's disappearance is asked to call the San Antonio Police Department's missing persons unit at (210) 207-7660.

Margaret Constantino with the Center for Refugee Services told the station on Tuesday that the community and authorities will not rest until the child is found.

“And like any big family with lots and lots of little kids, all of these children are precious to us,” she said. “Knowing this community, they’re very close-knit. So people will be out there beating the bushes, looking for this child.”
