An explosion at a Baltimore-area nail salon sent at least six first responders and one civilian to local hospitals.
What are the details?
Police were called to the Libra Nails & Spa in Woodlawn on Monday night after reports of possible criminal activity.
When they arrived, they encountered an explosion.
"We were inside the store there working on computers and I heard a really loud sound and the building collapse [sic]," an area business owner told WMAR-TV. "I came outside and the window was already popped out. It seemed like somebody was fighting on the inside."
The station reported that at least seven businesses in the strip mall were affected by the explosion.
The outlet noted that four police officers, two EMTs, and an unnamed civilian were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, and all are expected to survive.
What else is there to know about this?
The New York Post reported that a "man in emotional distress known to the staff" started a fire at the site.
"The explosion occurred after the man ran into the back of the salon," the outlet reported.
Officials told the Baltimore Sun that the unnamed man was a former employee.
Detective John Connor, a spokesperson for the Baltimore County Police, told the Sun that the man was clearly disturbed at the time of the incident and attempted to run away from officers before reportedly setting the blaze that ignited the explosion.
“The civilian who was involved in this was experiencing emotional distress. His exact intentions are unclear at this time,” Connor said.
Criminal charges against the civilian are pending at the time of publication.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms is investigating the blast and working to determine how it happened.
