Recorded phone call and archived webpage suggest that Children's National Hospital in DC offered 'gender-affirming' hysterectomies to children, some even younger than 16
August 26, 2022
An archived webpage and a call with hospital staff suggest that Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C. provided hysterectomies to children as a "gender-affirming" procedure.
Fox News Digital reported that an archived webpage from August 18 listed "gender-affirming medical care and gender-affirming hysterectomy" as a service provided to patients "between the ages of 0-21." Since at least June 2021, the webpage has listed the offering, but the hospital recently removed it.
When the news organization reached out to the D.C. hospital, a spokesperson stated that Children's National Hospital does not provide gender reassignment surgery to children. They said that the previous webpage version that listed the service was a "flaw in the design of our website."
The Twitter account Libs of TikTok first broke the story. The founder of the social media account, Chaya Raichik, posted an audio recording of a phone call with hospital staff confirming that they would be willing to perform a hysterectomy on a 16-year-old girl.

In the recording, the hospital staff confirmed that they offered the procedure to children. The surgery clinic staffer stated, "We have all different type of age groups that come in for that." When asked the youngest age a patient could be to receive the surgery, the employee said, "I'm not sure, but I have seen younger kids. And I'm not, you know, due to HIPPA, I'm not allowed to say that, but I have seen younger kids. Younger than your child's age."
Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C., has since denied those claims.
The hospital's spokesperson told Fox News Digital, "Children's National Hospital is committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all and to serving our LGBTQ+ patients and families in the full spectrum of their care."
The hospital also features a Youth Pride Clinic. The webpage for the clinic states that it provides hormone replacement therapy to "transgender and gender-nonconforming youth."
"We do not provide gender-affirming surgery for anyone under the age of 18. We do not provide hormone therapy to children before puberty begins. Care is individualized for each patient and always involves families making decisions in coordination with a team of highly trained pediatric specialists," said the hospital's spokesperson.
