Special counsel will reportedly heavily criticize Biden over classified document mishandling but will not bring charges

The special counsel investigation into the alleged mishandling of classified material by Joe Biden when he was vice president is not expected to result in charges, according to a report.

CNN cited two sources close to the investigation by special counsel Robert Hur after the Wall Street Journal first reported the development Thursday.

The sources said that Hur's report will be sharply critical of Biden and his staff in relation to their handling of classified documents, but it will stop short of recommending charges be filed.

Hur was appointed to the investigation in January after it was revealed that Biden had improperly retained classified documents at his former office at the Penn Biden Center and at his home in Wilmington, Delaware.

The revelations allowed his critics to defend former President Donald Trump over the accusations that he had also held on to classified documents that were seized from his residence at the Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida by the FBI.

Hur is a Republican who served as the 48th U.S. attorney for the District of Maryland from 2018 until 2021 and was appointed by Trump.

Hur's team has reportedly told other Department of Justice officials that their report will be completed by the end of the year.

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow defended Biden against the criticism that he was guilty of the same crimes that liberals have accused against Trump of committing.

"Again, this was not, as it was in Trump’s case, the archives desperately seeking the return of the material that Trump was blowing off, and Trump was blowing off those requests, and ultimately, blowing off the subpoena to return those documents," said Maddow on her show in January.

"These appear to be documents that were inadvertently held at the Penn Biden Center, discovered by Biden’s attorneys," she claimed.

Trump has angrily decried the investigation into his alleged mishandling of documents as being politically motivated and fundamentally unjust.

“This is nothing more than a continued desperate and flailing attempt by the Biden Crime Family and their Department of Justice to harass President Trump and those around him," he said in July.
