Stormy Daniels reaches $450,000 settlement with City of Columbus over false arrest

The porn star had asked for millions

Adult film star Stormy Daniels won a $450,000 settlement from the City of Columbus, Ohio, this week, as compensation for being falsely arrested at a strip club in the city last year.

What are the details?

Daniels, whose given name is Stephanie Clifford, was hauled to the station along with two other strippers in July 2018 for allegedly inappropriately touching undercover Columbus police officers during a performance. All three of the women were quickly released and had their charges dropped, and an internal investigation later found that the officers wrongly arrested the trio but that Daniels' arrest was not politically motivated.

Daniels had asked for $2 million when she sued Columbus for false arrest in January, but voiced her satisfaction with the outcome after her settlement was announced Friday. "I'm really proud of how the City of Columbus stepped up and took responsibility," the actress told reporters, according to The New York Times." She said the city was "actively making changes and holding those officers accountable."

Five officers faced disciplinary action after the department's investigation was complete. When Daniels was asked for her thoughts regarding other officers on the force, she said, "I support the police. I admire them. But with great power comes great responsibility."

She added, "I hope you guys do the right thing going forward, because there will be another Stormy Daniels."

Clark Brewster, an attorney for Daniels, told reporters, "The case that we filed for Stormy in relation to her illegal and wrongful arrest was based upon the fact that she was targeted not for what she had done, but for who she was."

He added, "We felt that it was very important that this woman stand up for not just herself but for the other people who were treated or could be treated like that in the future."

Anything else?

Stormy Daniels gained international recognition after claiming shortly after President Donald Trump took office that she had an extramarital affair with the president several years prior. President Trump has denied having a sexual relationship with Daniels.
