Student group places 1,000 pink flags in remembrance of aborted babies. Within 12 hours, group was mourning complete 'desecration' of memorial.

'Sad day for the state of higher education'

A conservative student group placed at least 1,000 pink flags on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin to honor babies aborted in the womb.

The flags didn't last more than 12 hours before disappearing entirely.

What are the details?

As highlighted by the Daily Wire, the school's chapter of Young Conservatives of Texas placed flags on the grass on Tuesday in front of the school's Tower.

Each of the 1,000 flags represented approximately 800 babies aborted annually.

By Wednesday, the flags were all gone.

In a press release, the organization stated, “This memorial was intended to send a message to the Texas Legislature, that we, the younger generation, venerate life from conception to natural death and will not stop praying and remembering the slain unborn until this barbaric practice is abolished."

“All these leftists proved is that abortion kills more than a clump of cells," YCT-UT Chairman Jordan Clements said in a portion of the memo. “They know deep down that it is human life being killed on the altar of convenience in our throwaway culture, so when our memorial made them face the harsh reality of how many are killed each year due to abortion, they decided to take it down and push our message out of sight."

Ariana Silva, co-vice chairman of the group, added, “It is a sad day for the state of higher education when liberal students feel that they are free to vandalize the peaceful demonstrations of conservative students. This behavior is abhorrent and should be unthinkable."

In a statement to the outlet, a spokesperson for the university said that the college "strongly defends freedom of expression" and permits related activities.

“The university strongly defends freedom of expression and has content-neutral processes protecting free speech activities," a university spokesperson told the Daily Wire. “Outdoor areas are open to the public, and free speech activities, such as demonstrations, do not require university approval. Students and student organizations can apply through the Dean of Students' Office to put up outdoor displays and exhibits."

“The office has not had any students reach out about this exhibit, and we do not have information as of this evening about whether or how it was put up or taken down," the spokesperson concluded. “If any students have concerns, we encourage them to contact the Dean of Students' Office for help."
