Tennessee teacher arrested and charged after allegedly raping former student at her home

A Tennessee teacher has been arrested and charged for allegedly raping a boy at her home in 2021. The authorities said that she is also accused of sexual misconduct with more than one juvenile.

Alissa McCommon, 38, from Covington, had been under investigation after she was accused of inappropriate contact with minors when she was arrested on Friday, according to a Facebook post by the Covington Police Department.

The Tennessee Department of Children's Services contacted the police in August about accusations of sexual misconduct involving McCommon and a former student, according to WREG-TV.

McCommon was suspended from her teaching post at Challenger Academy on August 24 after a parent came forward with allegations of abuse, according to school officials.

However, there are reportedly "multiple juvenile victims" who claim they became friends with McCommon. They apparently played video games and interacted with their former teacher on social media.

This ultimately led to McCommon "allegedly sending inappropriate photographs and requesting sexual relations with the victims," according to the police.

McCommon has been accused of having sexual engagement with a boy 12 years of age or younger at her home in 2021, according to Covington Police Chief Donna Turner.

"Covington Police Department Detectives continue to investigate this terrible exploitation and abuse of these young boys," Turner said.

"We expect to also develop the investigation to determine accountability of other adults in the case, including those who were aware of the abuse, and those who allowed or provided locations for such illegal acts to occur."

There is reportedly no evidence that any of the sexual activity occurred on any school campus. However, McCommon admitted to the authorities that she had communicated inappropriately with former students.

"It is unbearable. It's unspeakable and it's 100 percent preventable. I think that's why the detectives and we are so passionate about making sure victims are okay," Turner said.

However, McCommon's attorneys claim she says she is innocent of the accusations.

"We believe that it's borderline a witch hunt on social media and that's frustrating to us," Jere Mason, defense attorney, said.

"What we're asking is that the public be patient and allow the justice system to do its job and not create further persecution on the alleged victims or on the family of the defendant."

McCommon was charged with rape of a child and held on a $25,000 bond, per the report. She is set to appear in court on October 13.

"Remember, although we work for the public and our citizens, our victims are a priority," the sheriff's office said. "I assure you we are being thorough with the investigation and the process at hand."
