Tuberville refers former CIA Director Michael Hayden to Capitol Police 'for calling for a politically motivated assassination'

Sen. Tommy Tuberville did not take kindly to the former CIA director's apparent suggestion Monday that he be whacked. The Alabama Republican referred Michael Hayden to the U.S. Capitol Police Tuesday and highlighted the 78-year-old's career-defining failures in an unrelenting statement.

"I did not expect to be popular among the clown show; but I certainty did not expect to be lied about on the Senate floor and threatened by former government officials like Michael Hayden," Tuberville said Tuesday. "Anyone who actually cares about our country must go on the record and condemn his reckless statements."

What's the background?

Tuberville has drawn the ire of elements of the Washington establishment over his principled stand against the Pentagon's "illegal abortion policy," which funds travel and time off for service members and their dependents who wish to exterminate their unborn babies.

Certain that this "is an illegal expansion of DoD authority and gross misuse of taxpayer dollars," the senator has withheld consent whenever the Senate attempts to confirm blocks of military nominations.

This does not amount to a block on nominations, and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has demonstrated there has always been a work-around. Nevertheless, for failing to fall in line, Tuberville has angered the Biden White House, Democratic lawmakers, and even some personalities in the GOP.

While various lawmakers and Democratic surrogates in the media have made no attempt to disguise their contempt for Tuberville, Hayden — who once boasted, "We kill people based on metadata" — went much further Monday.

Hayden dehumanizes again

Hayden — a cosigner of the bogus and impactful Oct. 19, 2020, letter that sought to discredit the New York Post's damning Hunter Biden laptop story — has long been antipathetic to Republicans, having agreed that they are "nihilistic, dangerous & contemptible." He has especially been critical of Tuberville, having called the senator an "idiot" and a "racist" in recent months.

This bad blood bubbled onto X this week.

TheBlaze previously reported that a Democratic X user named Nathalie Jacoby posed the question Monday, "Should Tommy Tuberville be removed from his committee? Yes or No?"

The former CIA director responded, "How about the human race?"

Hayden's reply prompted significant outrage, as many interpreted it as a call for an assassination.

Responding to the backlash, Hayden doubled down on his remarks Tuesday morning, writing, "I was surprised to wake up this morning and discover that many MAGAnuts had lost their minds over my suggestion that 'Coach' Tuberville not be considered a member of the human race. I stand by that view. I'm wishing you all a nice day even the intransigent Tommy Tuberville."

Tuberville responds

Tuberville took the former CIA director at his word, stating on Tuesday, "This morning my office was made aware of a statement made by General Michael Hayden calling for a politically motivated assassination. This statement is disgusting and it is repugnant to everything we believe in as Americans."

"I am not aware of a single Democrat member of Congress who has condemned this reckless statement," continued Tuberville. "The deafening silence tells us everything we need to know about Democrats and their commitment to 'Our Democracy.'"

The senator noted that Hayden is simply the "latest in a long line of Washington Leftists who have engaged in reckless rhetoric against me over the past few months."

For instance, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said in June, "Tuberville is undermining national security."

President Joe Biden similarly denounced Tuberville's principled stand, calling it "totally irresponsible" and suggesting he was putting the nation at risk.

Sen. Schumer claimed that the senator's hold "is one of the most abominable and outrageous things I have ever seen in this chamber, witnessed by the fact that no one has ever had the temerity, the gall to do this before."

While past denunciations may have been venomous and hyperbolic, Tuberville indicated Hayden's latest was criminal.

"Given General Hayden's long career in Washington, he must have known that, by making such a statement, he was committing a serious crime," continued Tuberville. "His own efforts today to reinterpret what he said are only a tacit admission of guilt. If we still have a nonpolitical justice system in this country, then General Hayden will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

Tuberville might have cause to question the political nature of the justice system partly as a consequence of the Biden Department of Justice's refusal to prosecute threats against the Supreme Court last year or its aggressive targeting of pro-life activists contra pro-abortion activists.

Tuberville further indicated that his office has reported the incident to the Capitol Police.

Besides seeking to hold the old spy accountable for his recent remarks, the senator torched him over his record.

"General Hayden presided over some of the biggest failures in the history of American intelligence, such as the September 11 attacks and the lack of Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq. Further, General Hayden actively participated in the Russia Hoax and lied about Hunter Biden’s laptop to get Joe Biden elected President," said Tuberville. "Both of these lies tore our country apart and did enormous damage to the fabric of our republic. General Hayden is in no position to criticize anyone as his credibility was completely destroyed long ago."

The Hill indicated neither the Capitol Police nor Hayden had responded to comment.
