Woman allegedly shoots at fleeing robber who shot at her — then he calls 911 to report gunfire. It doesn't work out so well for him.

What was he thinking?

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office got a 911 call about 11:10 p.m. Sunday reporting gunfire in Marrero, Louisiana — just across the Mississippi River from New Orleans — and deputies went to check things out, NOLA.com reported.

They met up with Damont Meredith, 21, who told deputies he'd been shot at — and he even volunteered to take them to the crime scene, Capt. Jason Rivarde told the outlet.

Oops, another 911 call

But as Meredith and the deputies were making their way to the scene, Rivarde told NOLA.com the 911 center got a call from a 28-year-old woman saying she just had been robbed at gunpoint at the same location.

The woman added that the robber shot at her while fleeing, and she returned fire, Rivarde added to the outlet, which noted that no one was injured.

Something fishy going on

"As she's describing the guy who shot at her, they realize she's describing the man who showed them where the initial incident occurred," Rivarde told NOLA.com.

Meredith said he witnessed the holdup but denied responsibility, the outlet said. But the woman identified him as the man who robbed her, Rivarde added to the NOLA.com

What happened next?

Meredith was arrested for armed robbery and aggravated assault with a firearm, the outlet said, adding that he was booked into jail where he remained without bail last Tuesday.
