Education advocate explains easy way to defeat Common Core in schools

Students, teachers and parents alike have been struggling under the burdensome curriculum of Common Core, which are educational standards dictated by the federal government.

Mike Opelka explained why the curriculum has been detrimental to education, and education advocate Shannon Joy told parents how they can fight the system on Friday’s “The Glenn Beck Radio Program.”

“It’s changing the way our kids are taught. It’s changing the way our kids are tested,” Mike said of Common Core. “It’s taking control of how our kids are taught out of the hands of teachers.”

Joy gave a quick breakdown of the history of Common Core and explained why Republicans are partially responsible for burdensome regulations in education. A voluntary grant program under the Obama administration later became legislation that was passed thanks to Republican support, Joy explained.

“Not only do we still have Common Core in nearly every school district in the United States today, it is more deeply entrenched,” she said.

The issue isn’t with parents and students; Common Core is the problem, Joy asserted. She reminded parents that if they don’t want their children tested under Common Core standards, they can refuse to let their kids take the exam.
