Obama FEMA chief RIPS Trump's coronavirus response — but here's how Obama admin handled swine flu outbreak

Plus, a coronavirus update

Former FEMA chief of staff under President Barack Obama Michael Coen has joined the left and mainstream media in criticizing the Trump administration's response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, suggesting the threat to the U.S. has not been taken seriously.

"To me this is another indication that the president and the White House are finally aware of the gravity of the situation," Coen said of President Donald Trump's expected emergency declaration on Monday. "They need to consider all tools available to them and have contingencies for action."

But contrary to the liberal narrative, the White House unveiled an urgent $2.5 billion plan to address the "situation" on Feb. 24, well before a single U.S death was reported. Also, President Trump declared a public health emergency by Jan. 31 and imposed travel restrictions from China, for which he was called racist, xenophobic, and a fearmonger. The U.S. has also expanded travel restrictions on Iran and parts of Italy and South Korea.

On the radio program Tuesday, Glenn Beck and Stu Burguiere compared the Trump administration's response to the coronavirus outbreak to the Obama administration's response to the H1N1 (or swine flu) outbreak that caused 12,469 deaths and infected nearly 61 million people in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Glenn also gave a rundown of the latest coronavirus numbers as of Tuesday morning:

Daily Stats as of 6:30 a.m. ET
  • Total confirmed cases 92,275 (up from 89,842 Monday)
  • Total confirmed dead 3,130 (up from 3,069 Monday)
  • 77 countries have confirmed cases (up from 70 Monday)
  • 18% of active cases are considered serious (requiring Hospitalization) including 5% that require ICU treatment
  • U.S. has 103 confirmed cases, and now 6 deaths (all in Washington state)
  • CDC website no longer directly reporting total number of U.S. citizens tested since regional hospitals can now directly test
