17 men on trial in Egypt as government goes after gay community

A rainbow flag is an incredibly dangerous thing to wave in Egypt.

The Egyptian government is cracking down on people after a group was recently seen waving the colorful symbol for gay pride at a concert. Six men were arrested last week for “promoting sexual deviancy” on social media, and now 17 men are on trial altogether after being accused of homosexuality.

After the concert last week where a rainbow flag was waved, police used images shared on social media to identify at least 11 people.

Doc Thompson shared the horrifying example of government oppression and took a moment to remind all of us to keep perspective when bad things happen to us.
