On “Late Night With Seth Meyers” Monday, MSNBC host Chris Hayes praised the owner of the Red Hen restaurant for booting “one of the most powerful people in the world” out of her restaurant. He was referring to Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who was recently asked to leave the Lexington restaurant because she works for President Donald Trump.
“I will say this that, look, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, for example, is one of the most powerful people in the world. And in a very real and tangible sense the defining feature of a free society is that you can tell one of the most powerful people in the world in your government, ‘Get out of my restaurant.’ Like that’s genuinely like, a thing that makes a free society,” Hayes told Meyers.
“People could say, like, that ‘I don’t think they should do that or that’s rude.’ And I totally get people on either side of that,” he continued. “But in a real deep sense, like, hectoring, yelling at public officials. I mean, I covered all the Tea Party town halls of 2009. That was a festival of yelling at public officials. And in the same way, that’s actually an important right to preserve. So, I think sometimes that this conversation about civility can paper over a lot of what is actually just what politics looks like.”
On today’s episode of “Pat Gray Unleashed,” Pat was disgusted by Hayes’ misinformed assertion. “That is unbelievable,” he said. “First of all, his comparison to the Tea Party yelling at public officials, yeah, that was at town halls. They didn’t chase them into restaurants and movie theaters and synagogues and churches, they talked to them where they were supposed to talk to them, at a town hall. They didn’t follow them to their house. They didn’t accost them while they’re eating dinner with their family. They didn’t do any of those things.”
After calling Hayes a few choice names, Pat continued, “And to call Sarah Huckabee Sanders one of the most powerful people on Earth … She doesn’t make policy. She’s not writing legislation. She’s not signing executive orders. What are you talking about?”
