NBC's embarrassing gaffe cuts from a somber tribute to John McCain to topless dolphin-humping men
August 27, 2018
NBC shared breaking news on the death of Sen. John McCain over the weekend, which turned into a mockery online. NBC News anchor Richard Lui delivered a solemn tribute on the passing of the Arizona senator but it was quickly overshadowed when the broadcast returned to two topless men in dolphin masks and orange shorts on "America's Got Talent."
The embarrassing blunder was captured and shared on YouTube and Twitter, where it received thousands of retweets.
Members of the media like Ron Gilmer said it was an innocent mistake in a tweet.
"As someone who has done a million of these 'Special Reports,' you’re in a control room and you have no idea what’s on the air before or after you finish," Gilmer tweeted. "You start and end when the suits in the control room tell you to."
