Rep. tells his experience at the shooting this morning

Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) joined Wednesday’s “The Glenn Beck Radio Program” to talk about his encounter with a man who asked if Republicans or Democrats were practicing in the Alexandria baseball field right before a shooting occurred that morning.

A gunman opened fire on the Republican congressional baseball team, shooting Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) in the hip and hitting at least four other people as well. The suspect, who has reportedly died from his wounds sustained at the scene, was James T. Hodgkinson, 66, of Belleville, Illinois.

DeSantis described the strange morning; he had decided to leave the practice early with another person, and they happened to speak to a man in the parking lot.

“Had we not left early, we would have been in that same line of fire and even closer to the shooter,” DeSantis said.

DeSantis said that a man in the parking lot who seemed to match the shooter’s description asked him an odd question: “Are those Republicans or Democrats out there?”
