UPDATE: It has now been confirmed that the alleged shooter died from the injuries he sustained on the scene.
United States Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) and several Capitol Police officers were shot by a rifle-wielding gunman early Wednesday during a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia. According to the Washington Post, federal law enforcement officials have identified the alleged suspect as James T. Hodgkinson, 66, of Belleville, Illinois.
While information about the alleged shooter is still emerging, political analyst Phil Kerpen dug up details from Hodgkinson's Facebook page, where he allegedly indicated he was a climate change activist with an intense hatred of President Donald Trump.

Scalise is currently undergoing surgery and is said to be in stable condition. Both Capitol Police officers who were injured are currently in "good" condition, according to a statement from Capitol Police.
