School campuses prove Trump right; statues of Jefferson and Washington are now targets

Students protest to have statues removed from school campuses

On Friday's episode of "The News & Why it Matters," Sara Gonzales, Pat Gray, and Jason Buttrill discussed Hofstra University in Long Island, New York, where students have called for the removal of a statue of Thomas Jefferson.

In this clip, Pat, the host of "Pat Gray Unleashed," highlighted remarks made by President Donald Trump, who has called out those who have attempted to remove statues of our Founding Fathers from college campuses for the purpose of removing and rewriting history.

At the time, Trump was ridiculed for asking the question, but Pat pointed out that Trump was absolutely correct in his line of questioning.

According to Fox News, Hofstra University activists participated Friday in the second annual "Jefferson Has Gotta Go!" rally.

According to Hofstra University activists, "Jefferson's values aided in the construction of institutionalized racism and justified the subjugation of black people in the United States," read a petition, which was launched last year. "Jefferson has been embraced as an icon by white supremacist and neo-nazi organizations such as the Ku Klux Klan and online white supremacist chat rooms."

What did the Hofstra University say?

Hofstra University currently has no plans to remove the statue, but the administration reportedly announced last year an intention to create a task force that would educate students about the "founding fathers, the Atlantic slave trade and Western expansion; to think about what freedom and equality mean at the University."

What else?

George Washington High School in California is protesting a George Washington mural, calling the image traumatizing because George Washington was a slave owner.
