It is, by now, a well-established fact that Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi has on repeated occasion and for over a decade in public life, referred to the Jewish people as “descendants of apes and pigs.” Despite asserting that his current bad press is merely the byproduct of a smear campaign led by the “Jewish-controlled media” (thereby doubling down on the hackneyed anti-Semitic slurs), the Muslim Brotherhood leader actually has an excuse for his consistently inflammatory rhetoric. After all, he is simply citing the Quran.

Amidst the sea of oft-repeated blood libels and anti-Semitic canards, the “descendants of apes and pigs” mantra may be among the most prominent, and indeed, most important, in terms of what it actually incites among those who speak it (or hear it), and know from whence it came.

Despite common perceptions, the derision was not coined by Adolf Hitler and then adopted by Islamists, rather, it was the other way around. Found within the Quran itself are numerous verses citing Allah’s hex on the Jewish people and their subsequent damnation to live as the aforementioned swine, and primates. Quran verse 5:60 is the key to the kingdom in this regard and serves as the basis for all modern-day iterations. The Hilali-Khan Quranic translation of this verse reads as follows:

Say (O Muhammad SAW to the people of the Scripture): “Shall I inform you of something worse than that, regarding the recompense from Allah: those (Jews) who incurred the Curse of Allah and His Wrath, those of whom (some) He transformed into monkeys and swines, those who worshipped Taghut (false deities); such are worse in rank (on the Day of Resurrection in the Hellfire), and far more astray from the Right Path (in the life of this world).”

Preoccupation with the “right path” and with delivering retribution to those (“some”) who turn away from it, is a recurring theme within the Quran. The right path, of course, is submission to Allah as he is perceived within Islam.

Islam’s sacred doctrine is divided into 114 suras, or chapters, in which a myriad references — both direct and indirect — are made to Jews, the Children of Israel. At best, these verses merely lay the groundwork, establishing the Jewish people as a depraved race whose adherents, en masse, veered off that righteous path. At worst, Quranic verse damns the Jewish infidels as a subhuman species worthy of the fires of hell.

As with any Arabic-to-English translation, particularly one that must also decipher 7th-century religious parlance  – certain words may not render exact, but highly esteemed translators have been able to  capture the overriding Quranic messages with clarity.

According to Islamic scholar Dr. Andrew Bostom, dehumanizing Quranic verses are “used explicitly for polemical incitement” and a brief review of Islamic history reinforces this fact. In the broader scale, they have catalyzed genocidal pogroms against Jewish communities in the Middle East, Spain and North Africa spanning centuries. Today, they serve as the bedrocks of Islamic-supremacy and an entire society bent on Israel’s outright annihilation.

A central tenet of Islam is that the Jewish people (and to a lesser extent, their Christian counterparts) transgressed against Allah, slaying the prophets and subverting God’s will. As a curse, these infidels were condemned to live out their days as a devolved species: apes and pigs. Quranic verse 2:16 along with verse 3:112 – which, not coincidentally, also serves as the preamble for the Hamas charter — explains:

Indignity is put over them wherever they may be, except when under a covenant (of protection) from Allah, and from men; they have drawn on themselves the Wrath of Allah, and destruction is put over them. This is because they disbelieved in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah and killed the Prophets without right. This is because they disobeyed (Allah) and used to transgress beyond bounds (in Allah’s disobedience, crimes and sins).

The Jewish people are abjured again in verse 5:78:

Those among the Children of Israel who disbelieved were cursed by the tongue of Dawud (David) and ‘Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary). That was because they disobeyed (Allah and the Messengers) and were ever transgressing beyond bounds.

Their curse is to dwell the earth, reviled as apes. Verses 7:166 and 2:65:

And well ye knew those amongst you who transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath: We said to them: “Be ye apes, despised and rejected.”

Anti-Semitic themes are well-worn and indeed an integral part of traditional Islamic canon utilized by religious leaders, scholars and observant Muslims alike. Dr. Bostom, who has chronicled many such Quranic passages in his scholarly volume, “The Legacy of Islamic Antisemitism,” juxtaposes how ancient texts are used to inform present-day narratives. Citing from the book, Egyptian government-appointed cleric Sheik Eid Abdel Hamid Youssef cast his Quranic aspersions (much like Morsi has done) during a 2009 sermon:

Muslim brothers, God has inflicted the Muslim nation with a people whom God has become angry at [Quran 1:7] and whom he cursed [Quran 5:78] so he made monkeys and pigs [5:60] out of them. They killed the prophets and messengers [Quran 2:61 and 3:112].

Considering the fact that the concept of Jews incarnated as apes and pigs is actually rooted in sacred Quranic text, it is no wonder Morsi would repeat the phrase like a psalm. And on several occasions he was even captured mouthing an “amen” after its repetition.

Indeed, the consistency with which present-day Islamic leaders summon their theological, anti-Semitic roots is sobering. And of course, Islam’s ultimate prophet is yet another source of divine inspiration. According to the earliest accounts of the Prophet Muhammad, Allah’s sacred messenger invoked the Quranic curse denigrating Jews as “ye brothers of apes” before subverting two Jewish tribes of Medina – Banus Qaynuqa and al-Nadir – and committing a savage genocide against the third, the Banu Qurayza.

The hadith (a collection of the prophet’s words and deeds) speaks of Muhammad’s decision to slaughter the Jewish tribe in Bukhari, volume 4, book 52, verse 68:

When Allah’s Apostle returned on the day (of the battle) of Al-Khandaq (i.e. Trench), he put down his arms and took a bath. Then Gabriel whose head was covered with dust, came to him saying, “You have put down your arms! By Allah, I have not put down my arms yet.” Allah’s Apostle said, “Where (to go now)?” Gabriel said, “This way,” pointing towards the tribe of Bani Quraiza. So Allah’s Apostle went out towards them.

And set out, with sword in hand, he did. In the end, an estimated 800 Jewish males from the Qurayza tribe were beheaded. Of course, modern-day Islamists believe Muhammad’s blood-lust to have been entirely justified, in much the same way they justify and celebrate their own current genocidal aspirations for the Jewish people, under the banner of Quran verse 4:47 and a myriad others:

O you who have been given the Scripture (Jews and Christians)! Believe in what We have revealed (to Muhammad SAW)… and turn them hindwards, or curse them as We cursed the Sabbathbreakers. And the Commandment of Allah is always executed.

Hellfire awaits those Jews struck down in verses 4:55, 5:29, 98:6, and 58:14 - 19 (a cross-section of which is featured below):

Verily, those who disbelieve (in the religion of Islam, the Qur’an and Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) from among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) and Al-Mushrikun will abide in the Fire of Hell. They are the worst of creatures.

And of them were (some) who believed therein and of them were (some) who turned away from it. Hell is sufficient for (their) burning.

Allah has prepared for them a severe torment. Evil indeed is that which they used to do.

The history of Islamic anti-Semitism dates back to the religion’s founding and has spilled centuries-worth of Jewish blood across the Middle East and Maghreb. In reviewing expressly the Quran, not including the hadiths or any other early Islamic missives, derogatory references inciting hatred or violent action against the Jewish people, abound. Those cited here are but a few examples.

We question why the Palestinian Authority models its elementary school textbooks after Mein Kampf and lament the seemingly constant stream of rabid anti-Semitism and intolerance emanating from even the most seemingly moderate side of the Islamic community, but in the final analysis, it makes perfect sense when understanding how faith informs, in essence, all aspects of Islamic daily life.

Let us not forget that Morsi himself has sought stricter application of sharia law in Egypt — not to mention the fact that the Muslim Brotherhood is, itself, no “secular” organization (as National Intelligence Director James Clapper once so foolishly asserted). Islamic theology and more pointedly, eschatology, is the cornerstone with which Morsi seeks to rebuild Egypt as he believes it was intended to be: a land that comports directly with the central tenets of the Quran.

Those familiar with Islam know that regardless of an adherent’s ethnicity — be they Egyptian, Persian, Saudi, Pakistani or Iraqi — they are first and foremost Muslims. The factious battles between Sunnis and Shia’as are but a blip on the micro-scale of Islamic tribal life. In the end, the two sparring sects are united in their goal of defeating the larger “satans” who roam the earth.

Thus, when Mohammed Morsi, who is leader of the theocratic Muslim Brotherhood, declares that Jews are “descendants of apes and pigs,” believe that he means what he says. And when he says the comments were taken out of context, remember that the context, is the Quran.

    As per usual, moslems think no further than their noses…they also claim to have Abraham as their father-in-faith, so-to-speak. Therefore, they also claim by inheritance a descent from pigs and apes. Logic has never been a strong point with moslems.

      If Abraham had kept his faith in God to provide the son from which Israel would have become like the sands of the sea we might have avoided having the Hagar/Ishmaelites from whom Muslims get their serious inferiority complex.

      Of course Satan needed his own religion after Jesus created the Christian church upon which not even the gates of hell will prevail against. The Ishmaelites produced Mohammed; an inbred, child molesting, cave dwelling hate monger who was a perfect student for Satan and his demonic horde to inculcate into who to hate; Jews and Christians. The Muslim foil for the destruction of all Jews and Christians Majdi and uh, uh, uh oh yeh Jesus(turns out Jesus has only been hiding for a couple milleniums awaiting his opportunity). Jesus becomes the Liuetentant of Majdi and vows in the name of Allah to kill all Jews and Christians because well the Gospel of Peace just really gets on Satans nerves.     I know you guys will attack me for saying this, but this isn’t actually what they are supposed to believe. If you payed attention, you’d notice it doesn’t actually refer to Jews and Christians, it refers to those who worship false deities.(They worship the Judeo- Christian God) The one where it does refer to the children of Israel it condemns them for not following Christ and the Hebrew prophets, which was something Christians also used as an excuse to kill Jews up through the Holocaust. Up until modern muslim clerics corrupted their beliefs into something shameful, Muslim countries practiced a principle known as the children of the Book. Look it up, during the middle ages they had more freedom of religion than Europe.What their religion has been twisted into in modern times is terrible but you have to remember, many don’t follow that brand and its not what they’re actually supposed to believe. The reason I wrote this is because I am sick of of you guys attacking others beliefs. You cry foul when atheists attack mainstream Christianity, yet the moment you hear the word Muslim, or even Mormon or whatever else, you scream “Kill them all!” That is hardly Christian. And that last statement, that muslims identify as muslims more than citizens of any country? Let me ask this, don’t you identify as Christians more than as Americans? I do.

      The fundamentalists Muslims need to take a look at themselves in the mirror. Mohammad meets all the definitions of a false prophet given in Devarim (Deuteronomy) 13.

      YHVH, the one true God, doesn’t change. YHVH chose his prophets from the righteous minority of in society, those that were often outcasts for their devotion to Him. Regardless of their stumbling, He certainly did not completely abandon an entire people that He made a binding covenant with forever in favor of one person, particularly an individual who made his first career out of unrepentant larceny and assault on or murder of those he coveted from like Allah’s Prophet.

      Show me the devout Muslim population that has evoked jealousy of Christians and Jews. There hasn’t been one. We know the opposite is true, we see it in history from Muhammad himself. Once Muhammad had robbed enough money, he wanted power so he started his own religion. Muhammad was the Jim Baker of his day, though wildly more successful at gathering a flock. Unfortunately, who subsequently destroyed the prosperity of the Muslim people of the forever, making them slaves and puppets of the West. So remind me again who was cursed by God again? Christians, and Jews pray for the Muslims that their eyes might be opened. They worship a destructive false god because of tradition, not out of of truth.

    actually we were likely created by aliens who came here and mixed their dna with indigenous dna.

    I also find it amusing the Beck professes that we should help Israel against these people yet Jewish leader Benjamin Netanyahu states that Muslims comes from dogs and was one of the biggest supporters of South African Apartheid (remember Entebbe) So people coming from dogs and enslaving a group of people due to there race is ok but stating something that is scientific fact (evolution) is evil?     Man does come from apes-it is called evolution, learned that in 4th grade Catholic school but guess most people here are not at a 4th grade education level? The most violent and racist book of all time is the Bible but once again most people here don’t have the high enough education level to have read that book and or understand what it say. The worst and best thing about any religious text, is when you are racist and full of hate you can read into and find something to promote violence or if you are a loving person you can find something in it to promote love——–Glenn Beck cult promotes hate and racism so———–

      I have to wonder how they get women to convert? Do they promise them 72 experienced men? No. They actually tell them that they will be serving men for eternity. You’d have to make me convert, too. And quite honestly, you can’t make someone believe or pretend to believe something unless you brainwash them. Women are treated worse than dogs, and have that whipped dog mentality. I wonder if the NOW women realize if the Muslim brotherhood gets a foothold here, there will be no Women’s rights?

      Nothing in the Koran specifically states that the faithful are allotted 72 virgins apiece. For this elaboration we turn to the hadith, traditional sayings traced with varying degrees of credibility to Muhammad. Hadith number 2,562 in the collection known as the Sunan al-Tirmidhi says, “The least [reward] for the people of Heaven is 80,000 servants and 72 wives, over which stands a dome of pearls, aquamarine and ruby.”

    The truth concerning Islam was easily discovered by Thomas Jefferson years ago, by Christians and Jews in the Middle East for many years, and by much of the test of the Western World Centuries ago!

    Do a little research, read a little and realize that only Jesus teachings in the New Testament are based in LOVE!

    The Savior has come, in LOVE He’s paid the price, accept Him or leave Him (if you must), but realize that Eternity is a long, long time.

    Will the ultimate “one world religion” be Islam? And will you have the courage to stand strong in your beliefs?

      Typical response. Having read the verses, there is no context. Just random ramblings which are mostly incoherent. It certainly shows how uneducated Muhammed actually was. One thing I noticed throughout the Quran is this constant use of ‘We’. Since Islam is supposed to be Monotheistic, who is this ‘We’. Perhaps Mohammed thought he was on the same level of his allah (moon god).

      @ HALO9X- You are very observant. The term “We” in the Quran is used as a respectful term to describe Allah. It’s called the plural of respect.

      In almost every language in the world there are 2 types of plurals, there’s a plural of numbers and a plural of respect.

      In Arabic, Hebrew, Greek, and British English the 2 types of plurals exist. There is no such thing as a plural of respect in American English. That’s why you’re having a hard time with the word “We” because you’ve never been exposed to the plural of respect.

      In British English when the Queen makes a proclamation the plural “we” is used when making the proclamation. It as a sign of respect for the Queen and her position. It is not used to describe her and her husband or her grandchildren, or her her son or the British parliament.

      The plural “we” is also used in the Christian Bible as well. That’s because the Bible was translated to English by order of King James In 1604, King James I of England authorized that a new translation of the Bible into English be started. It was finished in 1611. This is the same Bible all English speaking countries still use today no matter the translation.

      @ THE_CABRITO_GOAT- Yusuf Ali’s translation is the best to read. His translation has commentary which makes it easier to understand.

    The Jews Talmud has those type of sayings too, Read,

    ““If a ‘goy’ (Gentile) hits a Jew he must be killed.” (Sanhedrin 58b),

    “If a Jew murders a ‘goy’ there will be no death penalty.” (Sanhedrin 57a),

    “Even the best of the ‘goyim’ should all be killed.” (Soferim 15),

    “‘Yashu’ (derogatory for ‘Jesus’) is in Hell being boiled in hot excrement.” (Gittin 57a)

    So both Jew and Islam are similar making these statements

      I’m curious where you got your last statement. I find the book Gittin without trouble. I do not find reference to the Hebrew name Yashu, Yashu’a, Yeshua, or any other form. Would it also have been written long before Christ walked the earth as Man? So, while the name for Jesus comes from translating the Hebrew name Yeshua into Greek, is it not a stretch to say it refers to Christ as you imply?

      Please clarify.

      The part “is in Hell being boiled in hot excrement” is referring to Jesus. So the Jew is told that the punishment from God for leading the Jews astray is to be in hell boiling in hot excrement. I will change my wording. Thanks for clarifying.

      Most versions of the Talmud refer to “sinners of Israel” not Yeshu. And even in the case of the one version that does say Yeshu, no background information is given to indicate it was the Christian Jesus. In fact, there are two specific individuals named Yeshu mentioned in the Talmud, both of whom were sinners, whose biographical information doesn’t match that of Jesus. Neither even lived at the same time as Jesus.

      Your first quote is wrong: it actually says “worthy of death” meaning a divine punishment not death penalty. The second quote simply means that a Jewish court has no authority to execute the offender. It does not mean the murder is permitted. The quote from Soferim, which isn’t part of Talmud, appears in numerous sources in reference to waging war (meaning that you shouldn’t spare your enemies based on social status).
