16-year-old female arrested on assault charges after allegedly beating 2 women on NYC subway train

A 16-year-old female was arrested on assault charges after allegedly beating two women on a New York City subway train, police told the New York Post.

What are the details?

The teenager — whose name wasn't released due to her age — turned herself in to the NYPD around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday in the same area in Manhattan where last week's caught-on-video attack aboard an F train allegedly took place, the Post said.

The female is accused of beating 51-year-old Sue Young in front of her young daughters and husband, as well as bystander Joanna Lin, who recorded video of Young's family being harassed, the paper said.

The teen was charged with two counts of assault, the Post reported.

More from the Post:

The 16-year-old and her two friends — who are not wanted by the police — began laughing and pointing at the family as they sat across from them on a southbound F train approaching West 4th Street on Thursday night, Young told The Post.

The mom of 11-year-old twins said she started laughing with them to try to stop their apparent taunts, but that only enraged the trio of teen girls.

Their cackles turned to insults, expletives, and threats causing other straphangers to try to intervene as the girls got up and stood over the family, according to a video of the violent encounter.

Lin, 34, took out her phone and began recording the interaction.

But when the teen who was arrested saw that she was being filmed, she stormed over and allegedly punched Lin multiple times, both Lin and Young said.

“One of the girls stood up and went to Joanna and just punched her. I mean, punch, punch, punch, like repeatedly. I saw at least three, maybe two or three,” Young told the paper, adding that's when she decided to stand up.

Young added to the Post that another girl got in her face and was screaming at her, so Young pushed the girl away to try to get to Lin, and then the 16-year-old came after her, too.

“Well, as soon as I made contact and pushed her shoulders away, they all came after me," Young added to the paper. "I backed up, but the girl in the white T-shirt came slugging at me … She grabbed my hair, I grabbed her hair, and I basically just grabbed onto her hair to shield my face because she was swinging."

Young noted to the Post that her glasses were thrown from her face and smashed and her arm was bruised when it got caught between two handrails during the attack.

The NYPD initially noted to the paper that its hate crimes unit was investigating because Young and her family are Asian, but no hate crime charges were filed against the teen — and both victims said they don't believe the girl attacked them because of their ethnicity.
