Donald Trump, certified birther?
In a wide ranging interview on today's Good Morning America, the real estate mogul raised some doubts about the president's citizenship.
"Everybody that even gives a hint of being a birther … even a little bit of a hint, like, gee, you know, maybe, just maybe this much of a chance, they label them as an idiot. Let me tell you, I'm a really smart guy," he said in the interview, which took place aboard his private plane, Trump Force One.
"I was a really good student at the best school in the country. The reason I have a little doubt, just a little, is because he grew up and nobody knew him."
Trump went on to say, "When you interview people, if I ever got the nomination, if I ever decide to run, you may go back and interview people from my kindergarten. They'll remember me. Nobody ever comes forward. Nobody knows who he is until later in his life. It's very strange. The whole thing is very strange."
Trump was equally forthcoming when he spoke about his fellow Republicans.
On Palin--she's "an amazing woman," and qualified to run for president:
She was the governor of a great state. She did fine as the governor. I think personally she made a tragic mistake when she left early … She did a good job as governor...And she's a tough cookie. I think she's more qualified than Barack Obama was when he became president.
On Boehner--man up!
I don't like the crying...I do not like it. I don't understand it. I really like him as a person. I think the crying is an emotional thing that frankly, probably makes him a very nice man. But you know, I don't like to see it in a leader.
On Santorum--you're a loser, dude.
He lost his Senate race. How do you lose a Senate race and then all of a sudden show up and start running for president? You know, he's a nice guy … but I don't think he has a chance.
So how seriously is Trump considering a 2012 presidential run of his own? Very seriously. Trump said that he is willing to put up $500-$600 million of his own money to fund his own campaign, provided that he is doing well. "Part of the beauty of me," he explained with a straight face, "is that I'm very rich."
Trump also said that if he didn't secure the Republican nomination, that he may consider running as an independent candidate.
Trumps plans to make a final decision "sometime prior to June" on whether he plans to run.
