"They were freshman."
Yesterday, while on a walk for their Humanities class, a group of high school students made a gruesome discovery -- the body of a 14-year-old boy. FOX41 has more:
"They were freshman. They were in the back of the school doing an activity as part of their lesson and they looked over in a ditch that runs adjacent to the school and they saw what appeared to be a body," says Lauren Roberts, a spokesperson with Jefferson County Public Schools.
LEX18.com reports that police are working to determine how the boy died and that "...evidence found at the scene indicates foul play." While the boy lives in Louisville, he attended a different area school.
The victim's family members claim that he had not been seen since Tuesday night and that he was not in school yesterday. Local residents have expressed their shock and dismay:
'It's very surprising this close to home, but there are a lot of youth that travel up and down the road during the night and sometimes it's pretty late at night. I guess it's an opportunity for things to happen,' said Louisville resident Lonnie Skaggs, who lives next to the school.
Watch Louisville Metro Police spokeswoman Carey Klain discuss the incident:
