Perry Reacts to Debate Audience’s Death Cheer: I Was ‘Taken Aback’

"We're the party of life."

Earlier this morning we posed the question of whether or not the audience during Monday's GOP debate cheered after Ron Paul was asked if he would let someone without health insurance die instead of taking care of that patient. In the end, Paul wouldn't, but the audience seemed to scream "Yeah!" before he even answered, and the consensus seems to be building that the reaction was uncalled for.

Joining that camp now is Texas Governor Rick Perry, who was on stage during the incident. He told a local Tampa Bay NBC affiliate on Tuesday that he was "taken aback" by those in the crowd who reacted that way.

“I was a bit taken aback by that myself,” he said. “We’re the party of life. We ought to be coming up with ways to save lives.”
