Ron Paul Responds to Alleged Santorum 'Disgusting' Comments: 'I Would Say That's Not Very Nice'

During an interview with Fox News host Neil Cavuto, Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul  responded to alleged comments made by rival Rick Santorum in which the former Pennsylvania senator called Paul “disgusting.”

“I would say that’s not very nice,” Paul told Cavuto. “I think he wants to deflect away from some of the charges made against him by having been a supporter of Arlen Specter. [He] was a pretty liberal senator. He supported prescription drug programs, No Child Left Behind and voted for all the foreign aid, so I would say that he ought to be talking about that rather than calling me names.”

Cavuto, however, pointed out that Paul has also engaged in negative attacks against his rivals.

“I think we’re all engaged in it and it’s probably the bad part of politics, but I work real hard at using the evidence that if people are flip-floppers, I think they should be pointed out, like I’m talking about right now about Santorum’s voting record.”

Paul stood by his beliefs, however, stating:

“To call me and label me a certain way because I believe in the Constitution … nobody tells me I’m not a principled voter and that I’m not a strict Constitutionalist,” Paul said. “So every time they say something negative about me, I say ‘you know, they don’t have a whole lot of respect for somebody that sticks to the Constitution."

He added, "I want to defend the fourth amendment; I want to defend the fifth amendment, the ninth and tenth amendments. [They] won’t talk about that principle … they try to twist it around.”

“Winning would be better than not winning, and second place is better than third place, but I don’t think one or the other doesn’t close you out.”
