Bill Maher: Obama Will Beat Romney 'Like a Runaway Sister-Wife

"...when it comes to things like the drug war and foreign policy, [Ron Paul] is so great."

Comedian Bill Maher isn't one to candy-coat his feelings. In fact, the host of HBO's "Real Time" often seems to go out of his way to make offensive remarks.

We've extensively covered his quips about Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow. Last night, Maher set his sights on new targets during an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper. During their exchange, the comedian slammed GOP presidential candidates, praised Obama and made a curious quip about Mormonism.

Perhaps his most offensive comment was a dig about Mormonism that Maher slipped into his rhetoric when discussing the general election. After proclaiming that he believes Romney will get the nomination, he said, "...then I think Obama's going to beat him like a runaway sister-wife."

As you are likely aware, there's a popular television show on TLC called "Sister Wives." The program, which documents a polygamous family's lifestyle, is controversial to say the least. Maher's mention, which is particularly striking considering that polygamy is forbidden by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (in fact, the practice would cost one his or her membership in the church), seemed to be a dig at Romney's faith. As he delivered the joke, Cooper could be heard laughing nervously and saying "Oh geez."

Maher went on to say that the Republican candidates live in a "bubble of irreality" and that Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Romney "make Obama look pretty good." These candidates, he says, make him "run back into [Obama's] arms screaming."

He also voiced his agreement with some of candidate Ron Paul's policies:

"Ron Paul has some crazy ideas -- like getting rid of the Fed...what he said about healthcare -- we should just go back to neighbors helping out -- just looney. But when it comes to things like the drug war and foreign policy, this guy is so great."
