Christie Calls Man an 'Idiot,' Tells Him 'Shut Up' During Town Hall Clash

"Damn, man, I’m governor, could you just shut up for a second?"

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie got into a shouting match during a town hall Thursday, calling a man in the audience an "idiot" and telling him to "shut up."

According to the New Jersey Star-Ledger, William Brown, a 34-year-old law student and veteran, had been repeatedly shouting at Christie in opposition to a proposed merger of two New Jersey universities. Video of the incident shows him asking the governor to "please consider veteran students and non-traditional students like myself."

“If you decide what you want to do is put on a show today, let me tell you something, I can go back and forth with you as much as you want," Christie said to applause. "And let me tell you something, after you graduate from law school, you conduct yourself like that in a court room, your rear end’s gonna get thrown in jail, idiot."

The video, which was edited, then cut to Christie adding: "You know, I tried to be patient with the guy. Every time I tried to answer, he started yelling over me again. Damn, man, I’m governor, could you just shut up for a second?"

Brown was ultimately escorted out by police, the Star-Ledger reported.
