A Colorado worker was killed Thursday when he was crushed by a pile of pinto beans more than 15 feet high and suffocated, the Denver Post reported.
Just how Raymond Segura, Jr. -- who was an employee at the Kelly Bean Co. in Brush, Colo. -- ended up trapped under the beans is under investigation.
Undersheriff Dave Martin told the Post Segura, 56, was working inside a storage warehouse where beans are brought in in bulk by an overhead conveyor belt.
"He somehow wound up under this mountain of beans," Martin told the newspaper.
Local Denver station KWGN-TV reported the incident took place around 11:20 a.m. Thursday. It took 55 rescuers roughly an hour to dig him out from the pile. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
