Blind item: Take a shot

In Hollywood, it’s popular to be socially liberal and a Democrat. This handsome American actor is an industry leader in supporting Democratic Party candidates. He has donated his time and money and creative fundraising ability to many Democratic causes. However, he has a secret about the way that he votes that only his close friends know. He publicly talks like a Democratic Party loyal. But he actually votes Republican. A lot.

Three actors come to mind. The first, George Clooney, duh. But it's too obvious and in addition to coming off as an ass, Clooney strikes me as a true believer in what he says about politics.

Next guess, Tom Cruise. Just after President Barack Obama's inauguration in 2009 Cruise said at a movie premiere, "Hope - absolute hope. He has a challenge ahead and it's up to us as a country, it's not just up to him." But people who simply wanted to be cool in the last election always said generic, catchy things like "hope." It was just something to say, without any real meaning. Like when Cruise tells Katie Holmes he loves her.

Lastly, after today's "Pointless quote of the day," in which he said he "would kiss President George W. Bush on the mouth," I'm inclined to throw in Matt Damon. He supports a lot of liberal causes but I can see him voting for moderate Republicans. It's probably why he was so hysterical when Sen. John McCain picked Sarah Palin as his running mate in 2008.

Your turn. Write your guess in the comment section below.
