Pat Robertson Tells Husband With Troubled Marriage: 'You Could Become a Muslim, and You Could Beat Her' (Poll)

"No one made her behave."

During the "Bring It On" segment of "The 700 Club" on CBN Monday, host Pat Robertson took a submitted question from a man who complained about his wife not respecting him "as the head of the house." Robertson proceeded to advise the man that "he can't let her get away with this stuff" and even suggested that he could move to Saudi Arabia and "become a Muslim" so he could beat her.

To be fair, the Muslim joke was followed by some laughter, indicating that it was perhaps a joke. Still, at best, it was a very distasteful joke. However, later in the segment, Robertson again tells the man he should move to Saudi Arabia.

The man who submitted the question wrote that his wife "has become a real problem" and is disrespectful. "She insults me and even went as far as stretching her hand to beat me…and she refuses to talk through our problems," the man wrote.

Reflecting on the man's words, Robertson said, "Well, you could become a Muslim, and you could beat her."

"He's gotta stand up to her, and he can’t let her get away with this stuff. And you know…I don’t think we condone wife-beating these days, but something’s gotta be done to make her—”

"Not physically," co-host Terry Meeuwsen quickly clarified, asking why the wife refused to work through their marital problems.

Robertson went on to psychoanalyze the man's wife, whom he had never met or spoken to, and suggest that she "doesn't want to submit to any authority. And she probably had temper tantrums as a kid," calling her a 13-year-old in a 30-year-old's body.

"She doesn’t understand authority," he added. Robertson also explained that "no one made her behave" while she was growing up.

"You can’t divorce her, according to the scripture. So I say, move to Saudi Arabia," Robertson concluded, both hosts laughing once again.
