Romney Lightly Jabs Debate Moderator: Jim, I Like You & Big Bird, But I'd Stop Subsidizing PBS
October 03, 2012
"I'm not going to keep spending money on things to borrow money from China"
Mitt Romney came across comfortable and jovial during the first part of Wednesday's presidential debate, and at no time was the more clear than when he lightheartedly jabbed debate moderation Jim Lehrer.
The former governor was talking about how he plans to reduce the deficit, and one of those ways is to cut non-essential programs -- and that includes subsidies to places such as PBS, which happens to employ Lehrer. A smiling, yet determined, Romney told the moderator that while he "likes" both Lehrer and Big Bird, propping them up would end in a Romney administration.
