21-Year-Old Man Busted for Allegedly Forging Documents & Lying About His Age...To Play High School Football

A 21-year-old Michigan man has been busted for allegedly forging documents and lying about his age in order to play high school football.

According to the Mount Pleasant Morning Sun, James Nash moved from Lansing and enrolled at Mount Pleasant High School under the name Javier Jones. He played varsity football for the first two months of the year and was planning to play basketball in the winter.

The school's athletic director, Jim Conway, said he received an anonymous tip from a parent to check "Jones" out.

“I received an anonymous tip from a parent, it was an adult that had a conscience, that said you better check this,” Conway told the Morning Sun Friday. "Earlier this week we dug up his file, the police became involved (and) all the school officials, and found documents had been altered and forged. There was a couple days of investigation, looking into that and what we have found is this individual is not the individual that was on the transcript."

State rules say a student is not eligible to play sports if they are 19 before Sept. 1. Conway said Nash has been expelled from the school district.

Football coach Jason McIntyre said Nash was a defensive back but not any kind of star player. USA Today noted that Mount Pleasant went 2-2 in the games Nash played.

Conway said the Michigan High School Athletic Association had called it "unprecedented" for someone to change their age from older to younger in order to play.

A decision has not been made on whether the school will have to forfeit its two wins with Nash.
