Surveillance Vid Captures Woman Dragged 300 Yards in Walmart Parking Lot by Purse Snatchers

Drive-by purse snatchings seem to be becoming more common. In April, TheBlaze reported about a woman hanging onto her handbag for dear life as she was dragged by a van through a grocery store parking lot in Florida. Now, a Georgia woman experienced a similar situation, which ultimately lead police on a long-distance, high-speed chase before the suspects were apprehended.

According to WSB-TV, a woman was dragged 300 feet in a Walmart parking lot in Covington County last week when a couple in a red Ford sedan grabbed at her bag and she didn't let go. My Fox Atlanta reported Covington Police Capt. Ken Malcom explaining further that the 51-year-old woman was actually tangled in her bag and couldn't let go.

From there, a 35-mile chase with speeds topping 127 miles per hour ensued. The suspects were eventually trapped by the police and Georgia State Patrol, according to My Fox Atlanta. The two in the vehicle -- 29-year-old Robert Chastain and 25-year-old Kristin Callaway -- were arrested. WCSH 6 reports the couple is from Missouri.

The police said several purses and other stolen items were found in the car, which was also stolen, leading them to suspect the pair were part of a multi-state crime spree.

"Same basic M.O., traveling to a Walmart, riding through the parking lot looking for an opportunity to steal a purse," said Malcolm, according to My Fox Atlanta, which noted similar cases in Missouri, Oklahoma and South Carolina.

The woman dragged through the parking lot had several abrasions, which were treated at the hospital.
