Chick-Fil-A Exec Arrested for Trying to Bring gun Through Airport Security

TSA agents at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Georgia say they caught three people within two hours trying to take guns through a security checkpoint, WSB-TV Atlanta reports.

Interestingly enough, one of the three is an executive administrator with Chick-Fil-A:

“It began Monday when agents said around 10:45 a.m. they discovered a .380 handgun in Sheryl Rexrode's carry-on as she went through security,” Channel 2 reports. “The Chick-Fil-A executive was arrested.”

Then at around 12:00 p.m., police arrested Derek Morgan for attempting to take a loaded .32 caliber handgun through a checkpoint.

Morgan forgot the gun was in his bag, according to his father.

“Less than an hour later, officers said Wendy Parker tried to take a .380 handgun through a checkpoint in her bag,” the same report notes. “Parker's attorney said she didn't know it was in there.”

"It was absolutely a mistake. She's a sales rep. She brings the gun with her in her bag when she's in her territory. She's a woman just trying to make sure she's safe," Jay Jackson told Channel 2.

"She was going on a business trip and accidentally left it in there," Jackson adds.

TSA agents have so far stopped 87 guns at Hartsfield-Jackson checkpoints this year, up from 69 last year.

Unsurprisingly, a few travelers are finding it hard to believe that someone can  forget they're carrying a gun.

"No. I don't buy that you would forget it. That's a pretty important thing to remember," Robin Barfield told Channel 2.

However, others note that Georgia's fairly lax gun carry laws could make it easy to forget you're carrying one.

"I can see people being absent-minded because it's just a part of their routine. They probably have their gun in their car," said Jeff Coaxum.

But what about the three who were caught on Monday?

“Rexrode, Parker, and Morgan face charges of carrying a weapon in unauthorized locations. Rexrode got out of jail on a $10,000 bond. Parker and Norman received $5,000 bonds,” Channel 2 reports.

“The TSA once again is urging passengers to look through their bags before they come to the airport. In addition to going to jail and missing your flight, the TSA says you may also face civil penalties,” the report adds.
