U.S. Postpones Honoring Egyptian With Coveted 'Women of Courage Award' After She Celebrated 9/11, Death of Jews

UPDATE: Since publishing this report and amid controversy of tapping Samira Ibrahim to receive the International Women of Courage Award, the U.S. officials are now postponing their decision. TheBlaze's earlier report is featured below.

On Friday, March 8, Secretary John Kerry along with first lady Michelle Obama will, according to an official State Department press release, will "honor 10 extraordinary women with the Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage Award." The only problem is that one of those women, Samira Ibrahim, is an unabashed anti-Semite who called the murder of innocent Israelis in a suicide-attack "very sweet news" and said that each 9/11 anniversary should be marked by "America burning."

The International Women of Courage Award is an honor bestowed annually to "women around the globe who have shown exceptional courage and leadership in advocating for women’s rights and empowerment, often at great personal risk."  The reason Ibrahim was tapped to be a recipient of the award is likely due to the fact that in 2011 she was one of seven women allegedly subjected by the Egyptian military to undergo a "virginity test." The State Department’s profile adds that Ibrahim “was arrested while in high school for writing a paper that criticized Arab leaders’ insincere support to the Palestinian cause.”

The State Department has either failed to review Ibrahim's Twitter account or condones her other areas activism, which include disseminating a steady stream of anti-Semitic vitriol and applauding the attacks on the U.S. embassy in Cairo and the 9/11 attacks as a whole.

The Weekly Standard dug into Ibrahim's Twitter archives, revealing that on July 18 2012, after five Israeli tourists and a bus driver were killed a suicide attack in Bulgaria, she tweeted:

“An explosion on a bus carrying Israelis in Burgas airport in Bulgaria on the Black Sea. Today is a very sweet day with a lot of very sweet news.”

Doubling down on her racist diatribes, in August, 2012, Ibrahim has referred to Saudi Arabia's ruling Al Saud family as “dirtier than the Jews” and just two weeks later admiringly invoked Adolf Hitler:

“I have discovered with the passage of days, that no act contrary to morality, no crime against society, takes place, except with the Jews having a hand in it. Hitler.”

But Ibrahim's ire is not reserved strictly for Jews. The Egyptian activist also seems to hold the very that is honoring her on Friday in equal contempt.

Following the riots that set siege to the United States embassy in Cairo on the eleventh anniversary of 9/11, Ibrahim, according to TWS, posted the following message on Twitter:

“Today is the anniversary of 9/11. May every year come with America burning.”

The tweet was deleted shortly thereafter, perhaps out of fear of retribution, but TWS notes that a screenshot of the posting was saved by an Egyptian activist.

In order to preempt any potential backlash concerning her prolific stream of anti-West, anti-Semitic sentiment, Ibrahim conveniently tweeted earlier this week that her account had been "previously stolen" and that all racist and hateful comments were "not me." The issue is that Ibrahim's racist messages are long-spanning. A rudimentary glance at her Twitter account reveals as much, along with proof her myriad vitriolic statements -- there until, we presume, she chooses to delete them.
