Former gay GOP presidential candidate reaches out to Fox News for pundit gig

Fred Karger, former Republican presidential candidate who is openly gay, is retired but he's looking for a side gig. Among the places he's looking: Fox News.

"Yes, I have reached out to [Fox News CEO] Roger Ailes and my other contacts at Fox," Karger told TheBlaze in an email. "I was interviewed by Carl Cameron, FNC's Chief Political Correspondent in Iowa and have been keeping in touch with him and other Fox contacts." He added that he's also looking to CNN and MSNBC for potential employment.

Karger sent out a press release Monday that said after hanging up his career in politics, he's looking to get into... punditry. "I think there is a need for a moderate and very bipartisan Republican voice in the discussions taking place on news shows today," he said in the release (his emphasis).

In the mid 1990s, Karger was a regular on Amercia's Talking, a CNBC cable news spinoff that was headed up by Ailes. The channel lasted only two years.
