Are Obama and Rev. Wright Friends Again? Media Outlet Claims They Still Retain a 'Relationship

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright generally avoids media interviews and, according to past accounts, he's even reluctant to allow cameras into his sermons and speeches. That said, the fiery faith leader -- the man most known for being President Barack Obama's former pastor and for his contentious sermons -- did an exclusive interview with KDKA-TV. Aside from commenting about his past depiction in media, the outlet claims that Wright "still retains a relationship with President Obama."

As for this latter point, it's unclear where KDKA-TV retrieved the information about the pastor's current standing with the president. While it appeared the two had drifted apart following media furor and Obama's subsequent (and very public) separation from Wright, it's certainly possible that they are, once again, communicating.

It's also plausible that the pastor told the station that he and Obama are now on good terms, but Wright isn't quoted nor does he appear in video footage of the interview saying anything about the relationship. None-the-less, the outlet writes, "Wright is now retired but still retains a relationship with President Obama and spends most of his time talking about civil rights."

What Wright did say, though, was that the media have treated him poorly. In his view, some of his past sermon points were taken out of context in an effort to scare voters away from voting for Obama. He made his most recent comments while in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to speak at the Bayard Rustin lecture series.

"They decided to spin, what was 8-years old, one was five-years old, and they took sentences that were completely out of context and they made that the ‘boog-a-bear’ to scare voters away from Obama," the preacher told KDKA-TV. "If they played the whole sentence in context, it would have undercut their whole purpose."
