Fully-Automatic-Rifle-Toting, Profane Police Chief Addresses His Online Video Rants: I'm Trying to 'Wake Them Up
July 25, 2013
"I've always been pro-gun. I'll always be pro-gun. That's just the way it is."
On Wednesday morning, TheBlaze posted a story about Mark Kessler, the controversial chief of police in Gilberton Borough, Pennsylvania. Kessler's profanity-laced online videos that also showed him firing off a variety of automatic weapons became a viral sensation and news outlets in his area and around the country picked up the clips.
A Scranton, PA, Fox affiliate made the chief's story their "topic of the day" and even managed to track down the vacationing lawman for a comment. Kessler affirmed his belief that the videos were protected speech and he was simply defending his First & Second Amendment rights:
"I've always been pro-gun. I'll always be pro-gun. That's just the way it is. I choose to use profanity to get somebody's attention in that video -- to get a lot of people's attention -- to wake them up and say, 'Hey, if you don't stand up for your rights, you're gonna lose them.'"

TheBlaze had planned on attending the regularly scheduled Gilberton Borough council meeting slated for 7pm Thursday night. However, that meeting has been moved to next weekend in order to have Chief Kessler in attendance.
Editor's note: We changed the title of this story to correctly identify the type of weapons most frequently seen in the police chief's videos.
