Does This Receipt With a Terrible Tip Really Belong to Saints Quarterback Drew Brees? (UPDATE: Restaurant Responds)

UPDATE 07/30/13, 8:50 pm ET -- Dan Schreiber, manager of Del Mar Rendezvous, on Tuesday released the following statement:

UPDATE 07/29/13, 5:30 pm ET -- Dan Schreiber, manager of Del Mar Rendezvous, told TheBlaze in a phone call that he couldn’t say whether the posted receipt is real or fake.

“I can’t verify the authenticity of this receipt,” he said.

But he added: “I just can say that if this was an authentic receipt, just looking at it, I can tell it’s take-out order and that that would be a generous tip.”

In many restaurants that offer "curbside takeaway," tipping generally isn't expected.

Schreiber noted the restaurant also has strict rules about servers carrying cameras on the dining room floor.

A photo of a receipt posted Sunday to the online gossip site TheDirty (the site that recently broke the new Anthony Weiner scandal) shows what appears to be a miserably stingy tip from someone named Drew Brees that the site says is the New Orleans Saints star quarterback.

The receipt, dated July 9, 2013, shows someone with the same name as the legendary NFL quarterback left a $3 tip on a $74 meal from Del Mar Rendezvous Chinese restaurant in San Diego:

TheDirty.

Of course, there are several things that should be noted. First, the service could have been exceptionally awful and Mr. Brees was still being nice. Second, it’s uncertain that the Brees on the above receipt is the Drew Brees. Third, he could have been a buffet or call-in order (in which case tips aren't normally expected).

Still, the above signature does bear some resemblance to the football player's autograph (pay special attention to the "B"):

That said, the receipt could be a fake. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time someone posted a bogus receipt online.
