Gasp! Another Hollywood celebrity speaks to defend hard work

First Ashton Kutcher shocked the world by extolling the virtues of hard work and generosity. Then U2 front man Bono praised good ol' capitalism. Now, I'm breaking my solemn vow not to post anything about a Kardashian to bring you the latest lesson in common sense from Hollywood.  It's as Glenn observed earlier today -- something seems to be happening...

The matriarch of the Kardashian klan, Kris Jenner, spoke up late last week in defense of her daughter Kim and rapper Kanye West.  Why on earth would you care about this?  Because Kardashian was responding to President Obama's recent criticisms of their lavish lifestyles.

Obama's disparaging remarks came during an interview with Amazon's "Kindle Singles."When the interviewer asked him to reflect on his own American Dream as a child.  "Were there things, when you were growing up, that you yearned for that you couldn't afford?" host David Blume asked.

"I don't think people went around saying to themselves: 'I need to have a 10,000 square foot house,'" Obama said of his own childhood. "We weren't exposed to things we didn't have in the same way kids these days are. There was not that window into the lifestyles of the rich and famous. Kids weren't monitoring every day what Kim Kardashian was wearing, or where Kanye West was going on vacation, and thinking that somehow that was the mark of success."  (Side note: Is Obama honestly trying to say that people didn't marvel and gawk at Hollywood glamour in the 1960s?  Psshh, right.)

But you know what they say: Those who live in glass houses and whatnot...

Jenner shot back at Obama: “I bet the President has some friends with 10,000 square foot houses and that he wouldn’t mind going over there… when [he was] asking them to have a party for [him] while [he was] campaigning for dollars to run for president."  She went on to point out that Kim and Kanye's jobs afford them to live in a 10,000 square foot house just as "the president's job affords him to live in a 55,000 square foot house."

WATCH:

Now I'm definitely not one to stand up for Kim Kardashian and try and argue that her "talent" is worth her paycheck, but I will agree all day long alongside Mrs. Jenner that we should not begrudge anyone's lifestyle just because it doesn't fit our own individual definition of success.  When it comes down to it, everyone's idea of success is unique to them and it's wrong for President Obama to begrudge something just because it's not what he himself would aspire to.  And while Obama seems to think that his attitude is noble, it's really just sheer arrogance.
