A video posted online purports to show Syrian rebels executing two teenage boys who allegedly were supporters of President Bashar Assad. In the video, the boys are on their knees and blindfolded, while a masked rebel appears to read off of a paper a list of charges against them in Arabic.
The video, which was first featured by Live Leak and then posted by Syrian Perspective on YouTube, made its way to the official Syrian government news agency SANA, which is calling the action a “crime against Syrian children.”
The rebel wearing a black hood over his head and fatigues after reading his statement walks off camera. A crowd is heard shouting “Allahu Akbar” ("Allah is the greatest") and then a torrent of bullets smash into the children's small frames. More than a dozen shots were fired, some seen impacting the wall behind the boys. At least four additional shots ring out after the boys are slumped over and appear to be dead.
The Examiner reports that the execution occurred in northern Syria and was carried out by the Al Qaeda-affiliated Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
“It's reported the boys were from the Shiite-majority towns of Nubul and Zahra in Aleppo province. The teens were executed after two failed attempts were made for a prisoner exchange between ISIL and pro-Assad supporters,” the Examiner reports.
TheBlaze is unable to verify the authenticity of the video or when it was taken.
“A new crime against the Syrian children came into the open to further stress the criminal nature of the armed extremist terrorist groups that have been using children as human shields and pushing them to take up arms and fight among their ranks,” writes the SANA news agency, which represents the Assad regime.
It’s not the first time Al Qaeda-linked rebels have targeted children. Earlier this summer, Syrian rebels shot dead a 14-year-old boy after they believed he had uttered words insulting to the Muslim prophet Mohammed as TheBlaze reported.
Mohammed Qataa’s mother told The Telegraph in June that her son was shot dead by rebels after he made an innocent joke that had referred to the Muslim prophet Muhammad. She said that the incident began when her son was negotiating with a customer over the price of coffee at the family’s coffee stall in Aleppo. The rebels shot her son while she pleaded for his life.
