LOOK: Graph Shows 40% Drop in Global Internet Traffic During Friday's Google Outage

Friday afternoon's brief five minute Google outage caused a forty percent drop in global Internet traffic, according to analytics firm GoSquared.

GoSquared, called the dip in Internet traffic "huge" in a blog post following the incident.

"Google.com was down for a few minutes between 23:52 and 23:57 BST on 16th August 2013," Simon Tabor, a GoSquared blogger wrote. "This had a huge effect in the number of pageviews coming into GoSquared's real time tracking  — around a 40% drop, as this graph of global pageviews per minute shows."

The analytics firm also said it's important to "note that pageviews spiked shortly afterwards, as users managed to get to their destination."

Google later acknowledged a brief outage on their website, adding mail services and a host of other products experienced down time.
